Five Card Stud

This is the original form of Stud Poker and is still probably the most popular, particularly in serious gambling sessions.

46. One card is dealt face down and one card face up to each player. All look at their concealed or "hole" cards
.
47. The holder of the highest exposed or "up" card makes the first bet. If two players show equal cards, the player nearest the dealer makes the first bet. A round of betting takes place in the usual manner. Players who throw in ("fold" is the usual expression in Stud) signify by turning their up card face down.

48. A third, fourth and fifth card is dealt to each player who stays, a round of betting taking place after each card. The highest exposed hand is first to bet. Checking is allowed in these betting intervals. (Checking is allowed in every round of betting except the first in most Stud games.)

49. The pot can be won unseen in any round of betting, or at a showdown after the fifth card and fourth betting interval.
