This
is quite a good game. The Bug, it will be remembered, is a joker
which can be used as an Ace or as part of a straight or flush. On
the third card, or first interval of betting, only stay with a three-card
straight or flush or a high pair or the Bug.
And if the Bug shows up against you, you must have a fair chance
for a flush or full house to make staying worth-while. Raising on
a four-card straight which includes the Bug is sound at the fourth
or fifth card. The Bug obviously makes flushes more common and straights
comparatively frequent, but it should not completely dominate the
game.
Five Card Stud can be played with the Bug, but it doesn't make a
very good game. Potential straights and flushes become more valuable
unless the Bug has turned up in another hand. Otherwise, their chances
of improving are greatly increased. The chief objection to the game
is that it tends to become rather Ace-conscious. The appearance
of an Ace or the Bug as an up card is often the signal for everyone
else to pack up, and quite rightly.
