Spit in the Ocean |

Each player is dealt four
cards, and one final card is dealt face up in the center. (Originally
this up card was dealt during the deal when one player called out
"Spit.") This card, which is common to all hands, is wild,
and so are the other three cards of the same denomination.
With every player holding one joker for certain and with three other
jokers on the loose, hands are fantastically high. Four of a kind
is the average winning hand. A full house will sometimes collect a
pot, but flushes and straights are worthless.
Minimum requirements for opening or staying are as follows (not counting
the common joker):
1. Another joker, or
2. A pair of Kings or Aces, or
3. Two pairs. With the joker in the center, this makes a pat full
house. This is a possible winner,
though by no means a certain one. In fact, if the pot is raised before
the draw, it is best to discard the lower pair and draw two cards
in the hopes of making four or five of a kind.
To raise before the draw you need triplets in your hand, making four
of a kind in all, or a straight flush. |
